QUEST
In this pursuit of happiness ( called life )
In this quest of eternal love,
Being close to a D O G gives you soul blissful second only to when one's in inner circles of G O D !!
No wonder at school they teach , the converse is always true !!

POSSIBLE PREVENTION OF TOXICITY :
Antifreeze (Ethylene Glycol)
This is actually a winter and summer potential problem. Cats and dogs are attracted to the sweet smell and taste of antifreeze, and will often sample some if left out in a container or spilled on the garage floor.
Antifreeze is highly toxic - it is rapidly absorbed (initial signs appear approximately one hour post-ingestion), and there is a high mortality rate. Other sources of this deadly chemical are: heat exchange fluids (sometimes used in solar collectors), some brake and transmissions fluids as well as diethylene glycol used in color film processing.
Acute cases (within 12 hours of ingestion) often present as if the animal was intoxicated with alcohol: stumbling, vomiting and depression are common signs. The kidneys are most severely affected, and even if the animal seems to improve initially with treatment, they may succumb shortly after to kidney failure. The kidneys shut down, and the animal is unable to produce urine. This type of kidney failure usually happens 12-24 hours after ingestion in cats, and 36-72 hours post ingestion in dogs. Success of treatment is dependent upon quick treatment. If you suspect that your animal has come into contact with antifreeze, contact your veterinarian immediately.
A safe alternative to Ethylene Glycol antifreeze is available, it is called propylene glycol, and while it does cost a small amount more than 'regular' antifreeze, it is worth the piece of mind.
Arthritis and Winter
Cold, damp weather aggravates arthritis in dogs and cats. Arthritis can appear in young pets, but is most common in the middle age and geriatric pets. A fracture can also make the bone susceptible to arthritis after the injury is healed. Overweight pets suffer from arthritis more than their normal-weight counterparts.
If your pet is having trouble getting up or laying down, navigating the stairs, or has started to snap or cry when picked up, a visit to the veterinarian is in order. Many new arthritis treatments are available, both natural and medicinal.
NEVER medicate your dog with human prescription or over-the-counter medications without consulting your veterinarian first! One Crocin™ tablet can be fatal to a cat.
The Outdoor Pet
If you pet is housed outside, make sure that adequate shelter is provided -- to shield from wind, moisture, and cold. Take extra care to ensure that your pet is comfortable and can get into and out of their housing easily.
Several pet and feed stores carry safe heated floor mats or non-electric warm bedding. Deeply bedded straw is another good insulator.
Do not use a heat lamp or other type of home heater - this is dangerous, and is the cause of many fires.
Pets need to have fresh water at all times - make sure the water is not frozen during this time of year. Contrary to what some people think, animals do not know how to break the ice. (OK, some may have learned this trick, but they are in the minority). Heated pet bowls are a solution for frigid temperatures. These bowls are very handy to have during the cold winter months, and are available in stainless steel or plastic. You can find them at most pet supply vendors and feed stores.
Pets that live outdoors may need additional food (calories) to sustain body temperature as well. Please check with your veterinarian to decide if your pet needs additional nutritional intake.
Staying Fit
As always, exercise is important! If there is snow on the ground, check your pet's paws for ice balls or injuries. Rinse feet off if your pet has walked where de-icers have been used. Some de-icers are toxic when ingested (when pet licks paws). If your pet is having difficulty exercising due to depth of snow, slick icy surfaces, or appears to be winded, shorten the usual exercise times and monitor for any unusual signs.

Love Vs Money
When it comes to love , or rather for love , we all spend money , we dont measure or quantify ..
Even so with comforts , people are up and willing to splurge for personal comforts
so why still the temple mentality for pets ??!!
why people have to bargain , check and use cheap options for pet's food etc ??!!
Really it is disturbing when people buy cheap puppies and get free packages of infectious diseases ( which become evident in a few days ) or genetic diseases like hip dysplasia , epilepsies etc ( which surface up at any life stage )!!
My message to all the dog enthusiasts ( i wont call them dog lovers ! cos they arent !!)
please buy a smartphone or a music system or anything else ( which is non living ) to entertain themselves, cos i firmly believe , pets are not meant for those , who would calculate budgetary expenses , who would think , rethink to devote time , money , energy on a pet.. please guys.. this aint your zone..
kindly do not b cruel to it by adopting it .. seriously ,
the best option ( and free too )to entertain oneself would be meditation ..

RAINS RAINS HERE I COME ..
MOST COMMON AILMENT IN RAINY SEASON :
leptospirosis , water borne diarrhoea , fungal skin infections
leptospirosis can happen in pets like humans through
water lodged areas exposure to poor health skin / skin with wounds
or even through food or water contaminated by rats urine / feces
PREVENTION :
ANNUAL VACCINATIONS FOR YOUR PET AND STRICT HYGIENE MEASURES
water borne diaseases
avoid water lodging areas for walk to your pets , strict hygienic measures as sponge cleansing feet with antispetic wash and pet shampoos after every walk and through drying of feet and underbelly !
fungal infections
contrary to belief , a dog requires bath more often than once a week , as climatic conditions in mumbai demand it .
equally important is drying , preferrably blow drying of hair with a low intensity sound hair dryer.. also any foul smelling skin or any itchy / hairless patches should be brought to the vets attention on a priority basis
diet
ideally shuld be a commercial superpremium dry dog food and wet food
as usual for any climate : no spicey / oiley / sweet / salty foods
anxiety
preferrably keep your pet indoors
also keep the tv / radio / music on
special pills ( melissa) now available for pets. contact your vet for the dosage suitable for your pet.
rain care
keep your pet dry , warm , indoors for most of the time
check on his extremities if cold , provide warmth by way of heaters or heating pad or special winter clothing ..

Rabies
Rabies unlike smallpox has not been eradicated in India. Very recently and tragically in thane a 12 year old boy working with a vet was bitten by a dog rabies positiv. Since no care was taken to treat the boy and no preventive vaccinations done , the boy succumbed in couple of days. I request all pet owners and even caretakers ( those who only feed strays ) to vaccinate self and animals too against rabies.

Stem Cell Therapy
First of all, we are not talking about embryonic stem cells here, but adult-origin stem cells that are taken from the same patient that will be treated with them. Stem cells are present in every tissue of an adult animal’s body. These cells use blood vessels to travel to injured areas where they can differentiate directly into the type of cell needed and/or stimulate and recruit other cells in the area to do so. Their presence in a tissue also helps block pain through a mechanism similar morphine’s mechanism of action, down regulates inflammation, blocks cell death, stimulates the creation of new blood cells, and blocks the formation of or resolves scar tissue.
Stem cell therapy seems most effective when tissue damage is being caused by inflammation and/or a lack of adequate blood supply. Research abounds into exactly which conditions may be amenable to treatment, but right know orthopedic diseases like osteoarthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, and fractures top the list of current uses in veterinary medicine. In the not too distant future, treatment for laminitis in horses; some types of liver, heart, and kidney disease; and immune-mediated diseases (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease and atopic dermatitis) may also be commercially available. In fact, some doctors and stem cell processers are currently involved in research protocols and the "compassionate use" of these therapeutic options right now.
The exact details regarding how the service is provided depends on the veterinarian and other service providers involved. Generally, the doctor will collect tissue (fat or bone marrow) from the animal under local or general anesthesia; the tissue is processed to isolate, replicate, and concentrate the stem cells; and the stem cell solution is either injected directly into the injured area (e.g., a joint) and/or given intravenously. Treatment can be repeated more than once if the benefits start to wear off over a period of time.
Determining whether or not stem cell therapy is a reasonable option for a particular individual is very important. Like any type of medical therapy, to be most effective it should be based on an accurate diagnosis, a reasonable expectation as to what the best, worst, and most likely outcomes could be, and dedication to treating the animal as a whole (e.g., surgery to repair a fully ruptured ligament followed stem cell therapy and physical rehabilitation). Stem cells are not magical cure-alls, but they are invaluable for some pets.
